One of my favorite photos
Nice thing about being unemployed? Lots of time to prep for Valentines! On the menu tonight: Red wine slow roasted beef, roasted garlic red potatoes with coffee ice cream for dessert.
On the unemployment front I have 4 job interviews next week. Good thing is that I am fairly marketable. My former branch manager will be a reference, so that’s great. It clearly demonstrates that I wasn’t canned for being a shitty worker.
Sad thing is, when the Western VP let me go, I had to go and tell my manager... they didn’t tell him that I was being let go. Who does that?
I ended up getting 6 weeks severance after some more negotiation. So I am trying to be very selective in what I take next. I want it to be a good fit. No more adjusting though, I am going back to what is called Claims Advocacy or perhaps changing into a Risk Management position. Lots of exciting roles out there.

If you want a career that’s constantly risk management, we’re hiring!

Ha, I think I am OK. But, I did apply for one job that will put me into direct competition against you for the title of “most northern Oppo” at times.

I’ll get it back if I get this spot in Fond-du-lac or do relief in Grise Fiord!

Fond-du-lac 227 is at 59.3485 degrees North, I would have to possibly go as far as 59.9 238 (Lower Post, BC) . But yeah, likely you will retain that title.

Awesome, told you you’d be OK ;)
I’ve been inundated by recruiter emails this week. I am aiming for another position, but a nice ego boost anyway, and maybe something to fall back on if it doesn’t pan out. Speaking of Risk Management, I’ve worked in that realm for a long time, relating to either fraud or federal lending regulations.
Sucks about your manager and the shitty way that supposed “leadership” behaves (something I’ll say - it’s bad mojo to wish harm on people, but if some difficulty came into the life of a person or two I once worked with, I wouldn’t feel bad. Not hoping for it, just sayin). Wasn’t much different when my role was cut. It was my boss’s boss who made the decision. My manager was literally crying when she found out, which crushed m e a bit, as we’ve known each other for maybe 15 years and we are still in touch. Apparently it’s been a shitshow since I’ve been gone, too. I’ve said it before, I am often shocked there aren’t more workplace “incidents” out there.

I hope that both of us can find something we're passionate about and build on this as an opportunity!

I’m already looking at it as a kick in the butt I needed. My prior job was the end of the career path, and I lacked the motivation to move on. Forcing my hand will be a good thing.
Maybe we’ll both end up in something more lucrative, too. A recruiter sent something to me today that carries about a 30% raise - not sure if I am right for it as recruiters don’t always seem to read resumes, but it might be a good sign. More money to piss away on cars and other frivolities.
